We installed brand new laminate floors this summer, and although they are very resistant to damage, I can't bring myself to put my potted plants directly onto them. What if they scratch? What if water seeps through?
Which I how I discovered a new use for IKEA's cork pads! The "3x HEAT" 7 inch pads come in packs of three, for about $3 a set.
When placed under the pot, they create a nice protective barrier. Now, instead of picking up the pots to vacuum around them I can simply slide them with my foot without scratching the floor. And with an extra layer under the pot, I'm less concerned about humidity seeping through to the floor and causing damage.
That is a really smart idea. My my always just put some old newspaper down, but I like the cork idea way better.

ReplyDeleteI bought you cork pads at Lowes when I got all of my plants and I even use them for coasters in my office. They work great.

ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome idea, it looks great, AND you could do this with just about anything! have a heavy desk? Put the cork pads under the corners to make it easier to slide out so you can clean behind it!

Because I'm always over-watering and either hitting a leaf and spraying my carpet or finding out I put so much water in it raced through the planter and came out on the floor. I just put laminate flooring in because I ruined my carpet. I'd like to put my big avocados in the sun room but not sure I should. I need a waterproof mat of some kind.
