Cooking in a French Farmhouse with Mimi Thorisson

A Kitchen in France: A Year of Cooking in my Farmhouse

A Kitchen In France: A Year of Cooking in my Farmhouse is an adorable peek into French farmhouse life and homemade meals a la francaise.

I'll be completely honest...after reading this book I wish that its author, Mimi Thorisson, lived next door!  I wish that we could just pop into her busy kitchen unannounced and marvel at the amazing French country meals on the stove, play hopscotch with her charming kids, and talk fashion and food over a hot cup of coffee.  She seems absolutely lovely, the kind of person you'd love to have in your circle of friends, and her recipes are divine!

As a fellow outsider-insider to France, I have a great appreciation for her insight and ability to bring French living into English with elegance.  "In France, when it comes to food, there is a right way to do everything - but everyone's right way is not the same.  Everyone has an an opinion, and that is, as Inspecteor Clouseau might might say, why France is France." (Page 14) - so true!

A Kitchen In France: A Year of Cooking in my Farmhouse is a compilation of recipes and French lifestyle images for the seasons.  The book is sectioned into meal suggestions by season and the corresponding farm-fresh produce - I love the seasonality and Mimi's passion for enjoying foods straight from the orchard and garden.

Duck Confit Parmentier, Canele de Bordeaux, Slow-Cooked Lamb with Croquant Ratatouille...The recipes are all absolutely drool-worthy and the photos are stunning.  It helps to have a husband who is a professional photographer like Mimi's!  I'll be reviewing her Canele de Bordeaux on the blog soon!

  2. I don't cook a lot but I want to try cooking foie grass. Does that count? French dishes are sexy in my honest opinion like their language.

    1. Its actually not as intimidating as it looks! A lot of it is just in letting it cook slowly for a long time...which is actually not any harder than a crockpot is :)

    1. Its a fun little site, I enjoy it and hope you like it if you decide to try too. French cooking can be really easy - it all depends on what you're making. Things like French Madeleine cookies are easier than regular chocolate chip cookies if you ask me!
