Back to School - The perfect instant snack

Back to school!  This was always one of the most exciting times of the year when I was a kid.  The smell of new crayons, picking out new shoes, and watching as Mom carefully wrote my name onto each brand new school supply.

The first day of school was always so exhilarating.  A new teacher and a class full of new friends-to-be, with so much anticipation building up into that day.  Its a lot for a kid to take in. After running in the sunshine and playing barefoot all summer, the classroom is an intense experience.  Sitting still, listening patiently, and making a good first impression take energy and concentration.

This post was sponsored by a2 Milk® as part of an Ambassador Program for Influence Central. I received complimentary products to facilitate my review.

I remember how relieved I was to hear that end-of-day bell and to know it was finally time to go home and tell Mom all about my new classroom, my new desk, and my new friends.  Over an afternoon snack, of course.

My friends would run home to fruit-roll-ups and Doritos, and I admit that part of me was jealous about their sugary, salty, indulgent snacks.  But secretly I loved that mine were always healthy...and looking back I am so thankful that Mom taught me how to eat well...*thanks Mom!*  One of my favorites was so very simple, healthy, and tasty.  Just enough energy for an afternoon pick-me-up, and packed with vitamins for growing strong: A glass of milk.  Or three.  I was in love with it!

Back then it was skim, the store brand, ice cold in a tall glass.  Now, I prefer whole milk, warm in a mug with a splash of hazelnut syrup.  And since discovering a2 Milk®  it has become a staple in our house.

a2 Milk®  is real milk, that is naturally easier for our tummies to digest - perfect for people who experience post-dairy digestive discomfort... and everyone else!  That's because it comes from a special herd of cows.

Interestingly, all American milk usually contains 2 types of proteins (a1 and a2), whereas in the old days milk only contained one (a2).  And guess what, the a1 protein is the one associated with most people's sore tummies after drinking milk.

Are you lactose intolerant?  Maybe not...an independent study found that about 25% of Americans have discomfort after drinking milk but only 5-7% are clinically diagnosed with lactose intolerance.  A big portion of those sore tummies are linked to the a1 protein.

The a2 Milk Company figured that out, and uses the old-fashioned a2 only cows in upstate New York and the midwest that are free of the A1 protein in all their products.  Amazing!  Just the a2 protein.  Which makes it a real alternative for people who have discomfort after dairy, without extra processing or having to cut milk out entirely.

Intrigued?  Give it a try at one of these stores.
